Dedicated Server vs Cloud Server

Hey @nliningston

First you need to consider:

Do I need shared (traditional or public cloud) or dedicated hosting.
Lots of traffic, large amounts of data, the need for PCI or HIPPA compliance, need for admin/root privileges, etc are reasons to stay away from shared hosting.

If shared is out, then you can consider a dedicated server, or a private cloud setup.

Setting up a private cloud will be more expensive, but will give you greater uptime & reliability, IF done right.
A single dedicated server will give you much more resources and better security then shared hosting or public cloud, but it is a single server and therefore a single point of failure. Whereas a proper private cloud does not have a single point of failure.

To decide what is best for you, depends on your needs and budget.
